Humayun's Tomb

Tickets, Timings & Tips

Where is Humayun's Tomb located?

Humayun's Tomb is situated inside a complex that lies on Mathura Road, opposite Dargah Nizamuddin, Delhi.

The Yamuna River's course has shifted over time, but historical records reveal that the river once flowed impressively close to the tomb, along the present day Hazrat Nizamuddin railway line.

What is the nearest metro station?

The Hazrat Nizamuddin Metro Station on the Pink line is the closest metro station. From the metro station, you can easily hire an auto-rickshaw, taxi, or even walk (approximately 15-20 minutes) to reach the tomb.

The other close option is JLN Stadium on the Violet line, which is about 1.6 kilometers west.

Is there parking available?

Although limited during peak tourist season, and on weekends, there is paid parking available near the Subz Burj circle.

An alternative is the Sunder Nursery parking about 500 meters down the Bharat Scouts & Guides Marg.

What are the opening hours?

The complex is open from sunrise to sunset, typically 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM daily. For the past few years it has been open till 9:00 PM with a separate ticket for evening visit.

Here's how you can expect the Complex to look at night:

What is the best time to visit?

The cooler months from October to March are generally considered the best for open air complexes like Humayun’s Tomb. Visit during the early morning or late afternoon to avoid the midday heat and enjoy better lighting for photography. Given its expanse, it can take you 2 - 3 hours to cover the full complex.

Note: It's always a good idea to double-check the official website of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) for any changes in timings due to special events or maintenance.

Where can I buy tickets for my visit?

The Humayun’s Tomb Ticket Counter is situated right near the Complex entrance as you proceed from the Subz Burj.

However, it’s far more convenient to book your ticket online through the ASI website. This not only provides a small discount but also helps you bypass long queues. You will receive your ticket instantly with a QR code that the security personnel will scan for verification at the entry gate.

Caution: Be wary of unofficial websites and apps claiming to sell tickets for the Red Fort or other monuments. To ensure you purchase legitimate tickets, always use the official ASI online portal.

What are the ticket prices?

The price tiers of the online ticket are:

Children under 15 years

Free

Indians/SAARC/BIMSTEC

 35

Foreigners

 550

What amenities are available inside the complex?

Humayun's Tomb offers a few basic amenities for visitors:

  • Restrooms: Public restrooms are available within the complex.

  • Snack Vendors: You might find small snack vendors selling refreshments and light snacks near the entrance or within the complex.

  • Accessibility: Most parts of the tomb are wheelchair accessible

What else is there to visit nearby?

Humayun's Tomb is located near other significant attractions like the Nizamuddin Dargah (a significant Sufi shrine) and Sunder Nursery (a beautifully restored heritage park), which you can consider visiting on the same day.

There’s a newly opened underground museum connected to the Humayun’s Tomb and Sunder Nursery through subway passages. You can purchase a joint ticket of the three at a discounted price from the counter.
